Word going around is that David Beckham is set to join A.C. Milan on loan this January. The loan would last for the rest of the Serie A season. I’m a huge A.C. Milan fan and a big fan of Beckham but I think this is a bad idea. David Beckham would have been an awesome player for A.C. MIlan about five years ago but at 33 and with no room for him in the midfield, this doesn’t make sense. Sure, he would sell a ton of shirts but that might be all he could contribute to Milan. Didn’t Milan learn their lesson with Ronaldo that a name isn’t worth much if they’re on the downside of their career?
Don’t get me wrong, Beckham still has life in his legs but trust me, playing in the MLS is not the same as Serie A. He could help a team in Europe but it would have to be the right situation. I think he can get some of that magic back but he would have to play regularly and that’s not something that would happen at Milan. Who’s going to sit? Pirlo, Ambrosini, Flamini, Gattuso, Seedorf or Kaka? Beckham had a chance to join Milan many years ago but decided to first go to Spain and then to America.
David, just stay in Los Angeles and be the big fish in a small pond and make your money. What is left for you to do? If you’re thinking about England glory, be realistic. By the time the next World Cup comes along you will be 35. Do you honestly think there will be a place for you on that team? Sure, Capello says you have a future with the England team, but for how long? The days of you in that magical number 7 Manchester United jersey are long gone. Don’t go to Milan and sit on the bench. It’s not fun, just ask Rivaldo.

I see what ur saying but i dont think its a big deal if he just sits on the bench. Anyway, his original intention was just to train and now at least he has the option of possibly playing. Obviously players like Pirlo, kaka, seedorf will always have their spot in the first team but with Beckham some of these players could get some rest and not have to play all three competitions. What truly worries me is if this trend of signing ’star’ players continues then it could lead to the galactico project. I feel Milan’s tranfer policy are not focusing on what the club really needs, like support in the defense. But its become more focused on marketing, which i truly hate.
