NFL Picks – Week 5

Lets try to make up for a shaky Saturday by killing the NFL today.  Last week I went 2-0-1.  The games I chose are not very sexy but they should be solid plays.

Oakland @ New Orleans (-7)

ATS: Oakland 2-2, Saints 3-2

Home: Saints 2-1, Away: Oakland 1-1

Pick: New  Orleans

Oakland is coming off a bye week where Lane Kiffin was fired and was replaced by the defensive coordinator.  By the way, the defense is ranked 21st in points allowed this year.  Yes, this is gonna work.  The Raiders are a mess.  The offense isn’t much better, ranked 26th in points scored.  The Raiders lost 28-18 at San Diego before the bye.  There isn’t anything good I can say about this team.

The Saints lost to Minnesota Monday night in a game that was back-and-forth.  The Saints are ranked 1st in passing yards and expect Brees to add to that total this week.  The Saints D is 26th in points allowed but they should improve against an inept Raiders team.  Reggie Bush has been a monster.  He alone could kill the Raiders.

New Orleans 30-10

Philadelphia @ San Francisco (+4.5)

ATS: Philly 3-2, SF 2-3

Home: 49′ers 1-2, Away: Philly 0-2

Pick: Philadelphia

Donovan McNabb went off on the teams play this week so he has to back it up.  Sure, Westbrook is out but Philly has enough weapons to make this work.  Philly has the 9th ranked offense and the 6th ranked defense.  Eagles snap their two game losing streak in this one.

San Francisco is improved but their only wins have come against Detroit and Seattle.  The 21st ranked offense will have trouble with a stingy Philly D.  Just too much Philly here.  Still not sold on this new and improved 49′ers team.

Philly 24-13

Miami @ Houston (-3)

ATS: Miami 2-2, Houston 1-3

Home: Houston 0-1, Away: Miami 1-1

Pick: Houston

Sure, Miami has beaten  New England and San Diego but this is 2008 not 2007.  Miami is much improved but lets not make them a playoff team just yet.  This team is 24th in points scored but is an impressive 7th in points allowed.  If this game is in Miami I would give them the egde.

Houston let Indy come back last week and beat them but this defense has to be better than it’s number prove (30th in pointgs allowed).  Schaub will be back this week and I think that will be the difference in this one.  Look for Slaton to have a great game today.

Houston 17-13
